FOUNDATION SUPPORTS BIZ KID$

The Minnesota Credit Union Foundation is proud to support Biz Kids, a financial literacy tool from the makers of Bill Nye the Science Guy. This television series on Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) – launched in January 2008 – uses fresh-faced actors and quirky sketches to teach children how to make and manage their money. A full curriculum accompanies every episode and is available for free online for use by teachers and credit union professionals in their local classrooms and after-school programs.

Nationally, Biz Kid$ was broadcast on more than 300 PBS stations across the country in 2009. Since its launch in January 2008, the show has reached an estimated 118 million American households and 271 million people across the U.S. Biz Kid$ is the recepient of several prestigious awards, including an Emmy Award, an Environmental Media Award, and the Herb Wegner Award for Outstanding Program.

Biz Kid$ is exclusively underwritten by America's Credit Unions – a coalition of more than 130 credit unions, leagues, foundations, affiliates and service providers – including a $5,000 contribution from the Minnesota Credit Union Foundation in 2009. Thus far, $5.2 million has been contributed by America’s Credit Unions overall, including a $2 million commitment by the National Credit Union Foundation in 2007, to be fulfilled over a three-year period.
